How to overcome last minute tensions

Last minute tensions cost you much while appearing for examinations and interviews. Here we give you some tips to overcome those tensions

Tension is an everyday phenomenon. There are so many instances in your everyday life that keep you tensed and worried. But when tension grips you in the examination hall or while appearing for an interview, you believe that it is the worst of all tensions. You are doing something that decides your future, and so the tension is definitely more.

Why do you feel tensed?
Most often you feel tensed when you have a goal but you have not fully worked towards realizing it, and when you are not sure whether you will reach there.

Why are you tensed in the examination hall or in an interview? You are worried as to whether you would be able to answer the questions properly. Your goal is success. You are not fully prepared, and hence, you fear that you might not be able to perform well.

So it is mostly the fear of the consequences that causes the tension. You want the best to happen, but you don’t know whether it will happen. So you are tensed.

After-effects of tension
Once you are tensed, your senses do not work properly. You intend to do something, but end up doing something else. Tension also affects your health badly.

Imagine that you are in a tensed situation in the examination hall. The examination begins, and you are given the question paper. You start answering. Sometimes you misunderstand the questions, and give wrong answers when you know the correct ones. You end up returning the answer sheet without writing the roll number, and you do not put the right numbers for your answers. The consequences can be imagined.

Now you are appearing for an interview. If the tension is too much here, you might say "yes" for "no" and "no" for "yes". When you give the right answer, the interviewer asks whether you are sure about it, and you might end up looking totally confused. Naturally the interviewer will not be impressed by your performance, and you might not qualify for the job.

The solution
What can one do to get rid of these tensions? There is only one way, and that is the perfect way. Do what you are supposed to do in the most perfect manner possible. When you are thoroughly prepared, you need not feel tensed while appearing for an examination or attending an interview.

The most perfect solutions are sometimes the least practical ones. So let us think of some practical solutions.

Practical tips to overcome tension
Remember, the tips that I give now are not the perfect things for a person to follow always. They should be tried only in an emergency situation. For example when tension grips you in the last minute (just before you start writing the exams or go in for an interview) and tends to affect your performance, you need not think twice before using these tips.

Take a pledge that you will do it better next time
You are in the examination hall. You have not prepared well. There is no use worrying. Just take a pledge that you will do it better next time. Stay cool. Maybe you will get questions from only those limited portions with which you are thorough. If you are not tensed, you can perform well.

Tell yourself that you are not losing much
You are appearing for an interview. You are not prepared. There is no point in worrying. Just tell yourself that you will have better options in the future and you will then perform perfectly. If this clicks, let it. Otherwise, let it go. This sort of an attitude can help you stay unruffled.

Think of something that can bring happiness
When you are in tension, recall incidents that can bring happiness; instances where you expected the worst, but when things turned out to be for the best. It might give you some confidence.

See the world
When you are tensed about the interview or the examination you see nothing but the examination or the Interview. Deliberately try to see the world around you. Breathe some fresh air. Come on, an examination or interview is just not the end of the world. The best is yet to be.

Pray, if you believe in God
To those who believe in God, prayer can bring confidence. So why don’t you pray? It will give you the necessary peace of mind.

Now you know that your tension arises mostly due to the lack of proper preparation. So, work hard and be fully prepared for interviews and examinations. If you do that, you will not have any tensions! Wish you all the best.
